Hosts of the popular
Filipino Sunday Evening magazine show Mel and Joey, Joey de Leon and Mel Tiangco, and their film crews,
paid a visit to Turo-Turo in October 2010 while filming in NZ for their
6th anniversary episode.
The café featured in their show on November 21st (watch
the Turo segment here!) and both Joey and Mel chose to eat at
Turo-Turo - and by all accounts, loved the food. Joey de Leon had tapsilog and followed it up with a halo-halo. Mel Tiangco
enjoyed the dinuguan.
The 6th Anniversary show was widely watched on Pinoy TV in the
Philippines, and watched online in New Zealand, and had an instant
impact on the café's popularity.
A gift of a Turo-Turo T-shirt to Joey de Leon ended up being worn by
the host on his daytime entertainment show, Eat Bulaga.
Both Joey and Mel were delightful. Despite being very tired from days
of travelling, filming, and meeting hundreds of people, they were
professional to the core. So were their crew, those who accompanied
them to New Zealand, and those who stayed back in the Philippines
making all of the arrangements.
Special thanks to the Mel and Joey production team's researcher, JM
Solon, who was always so easy to deal with. JM, you are welcomed with
open arms to New Zealand any time!
